MARKETSCAN DISSERTATION SUPPORT PROGRAM
Through the Thomson Reuters MarketScan® Dissertation Support Program, Thomson Reuters provides private health insurance information to academic institutions in support of dissertation research.
Thomson Reuters is pleased to support the education of future health services researchers, and enhance the resources available for doctoral-level research in the United States, by providing access to its 2002 and 2003 MarketScan Commercial Claims Databases. Students who qualify to participate in the dissertation support program will receive the data at no charge.
The MarketScan Databases provide de-identified patient-level data that reflect the real world of treatment patterns and costs by tracking patients as they move through the healthcare system. Doctoral students will have access to claims, encounters, enrollment, and drug data for millions of covered lives in the working population, including dependents. Faculty sponsors of dissertation research are invited to apply on behalf of their student for participation in this program.
How to apply:
To apply for the program, dissertation advisors need to complete and submit the online application. Thomson Reuters will review the application and, if accepted, a Data Use License Agreement will be sent to the advisor. That agreement will need to be signed by the university/institution (“Data Recipient”). In addition, a separate Data Access Rider will be provided that needs to be signed by the candidate’s dissertation advisor, the doctoral candidate, and the university.
Thomson Reuters is pleased to provide this data resource at no charge to support PhD candidates. Please note that the MarketScan Commercial Claims file will be provided as is without any customization. Any modifications needed to the database must be made directly by the researcher. Please call Jillian Dudek at +1 619-450-4175, or e-mail with any questions.
